Mission, Vision, and Core Values

Our Mission

The mission of the AIP Foundation is to encourage and facilitate charitable support for AIP’s efforts to advance, promote, and serve the physical sciences for the benefit of humanity. Our scope of fundraising includes support for the Center for History of Physics, the Niels Bohr Library & Archives, the Society for Physics Students and the physics honorary society Sigma Pi Sigma, as well as programs that advance access and inclusion of African Americans and others underrepresented in the physical sciences.

Our Vision

The AIP Foundation will be a model for best practices relative to fundraising, stewardship of our donors, and management of our assets and investments.

Core Values

  • We are passionate about and supportive of the work of the American Institute of Physics as an Institute and a federation of ten Member Societies.
  • The AIP Foundation strives to operate with a focus on excellence and best practices, so that Foundation operations are synonymous with quality, integrity, transparency, and responsiveness.
  • We have respect for all persons and believe in fostering diversity, inclusiveness and equal opportunity. The Foundation cannot accept gifts, grants, or funds which foster or support discrimination based on race, sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, religion, economic status, country of origin and citizenship, ethnic background, or disability.
  • We welcome strategic alliances with public and private funders and entities to accomplish purposes consistent with our mission and values and those of AIP, the organization we support.
  • We intend to practice stewardship which is donor-centric, managing our investments and assets prudently and with a long-term strategy to benefit AIP.
