Charles W. Clark, History Donor

Charles W. Clark donated a rare book to the Niels Bohr Library & Archives in December, 2019.

He holds Charles Babbage’s Observations on the Temple of Serapis at Pozzuoli near Naples : with an attempt to explain the causes of the frequent elevation and depression of large portions of the earth's surface in remote periods, and to prove that those causes continue in action at the present day. With a supplement. Conjectures on the physical condition of the surface of the moon. Imprint: 1847, privately printed.

What distinguishes this rare book is its provenance: Inscribed by Charles Babbage to Michael Faraday. From the library of Robert Damon.

This generous gift compliments the rare books and materials in the Niels Bohr Library & Archives.
